Each year, the Squamish Chamber of Commerce celebrates our business community at the annual Squamish Business Excellence Awards, presented by RE/MAX Sea to Sky.
On December 2nd, the Squamish Chamber of Commerce recognized and celebrated the successes of local entrepreneurs and leaders at Squamish Valley Golf & Country Club. The evening was full of celebration, champagne, fabulous food and an evening of live music.
The Squamish Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the winners for the 2021 Squamish Business Excellence Awards (BEAs), presented by RE/MAX. Over one hundred nominations were received, reflecting a strong and prosperous business community, full of talent, creativity and innovation.
The winners are selected using a combination of Squamish Chamber member votes and a panel review.
The Nook Refillery
Founded in 2020, The Nook Refillery Store was born of out the desire to live a more conscious and sustainable lifestyle. The Nook is a curation of premium home, body and pantry products, which are 100% natural, environmentally sustainable and sourced as locally as possible. The Nook provides refillable options to reduce the amount of single use packaging that we use in our daily lives.
Mike Van Capelle, Blue Water Concepts
Mike Van Capelle is the founder and owner of Blue Water Concepts, a Squamish design-build construction company that focuses on high performance and high-quality construction. Mike started Blue Water five years ago and has grown the company to a team of 22, demonstrating strong entrepreneurship skills and leadership. He has also contributed to the community through donations of time and resources to organizations such as the Squamish Food Bank and Under One Roof.
99 North Cannabis Store
99 North Cannabis Store in Squamish has proudly served the Sea to Sky since 2015. As an advocate, 99 North Cannabis contributed to changing laws in the municipality, province and country, making history by being the first application in the province to have municipal approval. A raid, fine and civil forfeiture later, 99 North re opened by Nesters and in July 2021 became the first to offer cannabis delivery in the corridor.
Pearl’s Value & Vintage
Pearl’s Value & Vintage is a social enterprise shop operated by Howe Sound Women’s Centre Society (HSWCS). Pearl’s is a community thrift store and sells gently used clothing, furniture and household goods, as well as providing vouchers for clothes and other necessities to people in need. Pearl’s also provides work experience and training to women in transition, with profits going to HSWCS’s programs and services.
SḴWÁLWEN is an Indigenous business creating small batch, luxury botanical skincare and wellness products. Honouring traditional Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish) plant knowledge, Sḵwálwen incorporate sustainably harvested and sourced plants and organic, high quality ingredients. Each product has a Squamish name to honour the place where the plant knowledge comes from.
