Fall for Squamish – Support Local Season

Discover Small Businesses in Squamish

As we wrap up three months of Buy Local programming,  we’re ensuring Squamish businesses can see out the year alongside our Light Up Squamish and Window Wars activation. We saw 58 businesses register for Fall For Squamish, with many very generously donating prizes. The traditional shop, stamp, win promotion generated over $60,000 of sales for participating businesses throughout the month of October, whilst stimulating footfall and a sense of connection throughout the community.

Small businesses are important to the economic and social fabric of our society, and we all play a part in their survival. If your zoom fatigue is getting the better of you, there’s a choice of many experienced optometrists in town, including Garibaldi Eye Care, Optomeyes and Omni Eye. All offering amazing prizes for our program for our community of #buylocal enthusiast

Our inability to travel far has many of us question our accessibility to what we consume and in turn the sustainability of this culture. Emerging stores Grounded Grocer, The Nook Refillery and We Fill Mobile Market offer more transparency in ingredients, materials, and the source of the products you buy.

Support Local This Holiday season

Research shows that BC local businesses create more than double the economic impact of their chain competitors. For every $100 spent with a BC local business, $63 is re-circulated back into our BC economy (vs $14 for multinational corporations).   O’Briens pet store stock in an abundance of unique pieces from local brands.

Smaller stores, like Kululu and Zephyr Cafe often have the means to produce and source locally because of smaller quantities. They also re-circulate 4.6 times more revenue in the local economy.

With some childcare restricted and offices going remote, it might be a while before you can escape the chaos but in the meantime you could check out Squamish’s independent businesses and discover a new hobby for you or your kids – have you been to the Airhouse yet? Or take time to pause and check out new business Cordelias Locket, offering exclusive events and delectable eats!

Continued spread of the global pandemic has affected the economy, but we can make a choice with our dollars to help local economies stay afloat. These informed choices give our small businesses a fighting chance to rebound when our whole community emerge safely from our current restrictions.
