Gale Kim is a lawyer at Mackoff Mohamed specializing in employment law, civil and commercial litigation, and insurance defence, with experience in all levels of court in British Columbia. She advises clients on employment agreements, workplace policies, hiring and termination procedures, human rights, and disciplinary matters, and has expertise in service agreements and waivers across industries like education, media, and automotive services. Gale also serves on the Squamish Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and supports businesses throughout the Sea to Sky Corridor. She holds a BFA from NYU, an MFA from CalArts, and a JD from the University of Alberta. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time outdoors with her family and pursuing her passion for film and animation.
What inspired you to start your business, and how does it reflect the unique spirit of Squamish?
I was inspired to build my practice in Squamish because this community embodies exactly what I value in my work: collaboration, entrepreneurship, and a genuine commitment to supporting one another. Squamish is full of innovators, small-business owners, and people who are not afraid to build something meaningful. I wanted to offer legal services that match that energy—practical, strategic, and accessible—so that local businesses and workers can grow with confidence.
What products or services do you offer, and what sets them apart from others in the community?
I provide employment law advice, civil and commercial litigation services, and insurance defence work. Much of my practice involves helping businesses navigate workplace matters, including employment agreements, contractor relationships, workplace policies, disciplinary issues, and hiring or termination processes.
What sets my service apart is my focus on preventive, business-minded guidance. I aim to help clients avoid disputes before they arise and resolve issues efficiently when they do. My experience across industries—medicine, wellness, retail, hospitality, education, childcare, media, photography, and automotive services—allows me to tailor solutions to the realities of each business.
How does your business contribute to the Squamish community or support the local economy?
I work closely with businesses throughout the Sea to Sky Corridor, helping them create strong, compliant, and fair workplace practices. When employers and employees understand their rights and responsibilities, workplaces run more smoothly, and that stability strengthens the broader economy.
I serve on the Board of Directors for the Squamish Chamber of Commerce, where I contribute to local advocacy, business development initiatives, and community partnerships that help Squamish continue to thrive.
Can you share a memorable story or milestone that highlights your journey as a business owner in Squamish?
A standout milestone for me was the first time a local business owner told me that my advice helped them confidently navigate a challenging workplace situation that had been weighing on them for months. Their sense of relief and renewed focus on their business reminded me why I chose to practice law in a community like Squamish—where the impact of good advice is both immediate and personal.
What do you love most about being part of the Squamish community, and how can locals connect with you?
I love the sense of connection here. People look out for one another, celebrate each other’s successes, and genuinely want to see their neighbours succeed. It is a place where relationships matter, and that aligns perfectly with how I practice law.
